Welcome to Running Personal Best
The website created by real runners to share running improvement techniques that help us all to beat our personal bests. Whether you are hungry to get below 2 hours for your half marathon or eager to break the 5 minute mile, there are hundreds of ideas that you can use immediately on this website.
Why is a Personal Best so Important and How do I Get One?
If you are anything like me you probably feel passionate about running. I think about running all the time and whenever I find someone who is interested in running (even slightly) I need to talk and talk about it. The benefits of running are almost endless and through this website you can find new ways of maximising these benefits and becoming an even better runner.
I set my first Personal Best for the half marathon in 1986. I completed the Land O' Burns half marathon in Ayr in 1 hour and 44 minutes. It was a beautiful sunny September day and the finish line was along the esplanade. Both sides of the road were lined by hundreds of people cheering on the runners. It felt pretty good to finish and to achieve that personal best. In Jan 2004 after a long break from running I started training once again. This time I put more science in to how I trained and committed myself to completing a marathon before I was 40. In March 2005 I broke my personal best that I had set as a 21 year old. At age 39 my new time was 1 hour 34 minutes. It is still my personal best (at the moment) but deep inside I want to get below 1 hour 30 minutes. Follow my blog and see if I can get there.
Personal Best targets can provide us with new additional motivation to take our running to the next level. It doesn't matter what age you are or whether you have much running experience. In fact it doesn't even matter if you are a runner (yet!). Set your running goals and start taking action towards your first or next personal best.
So where do you start? The distance doesn't matter, whether it's a one mile fun run or the 40+ miles of the Lyke Wake Race. The first time you complete any race you have a personal best and this is the benchmark to driving yourself to beat it. Click this link to find the 10 best ways to beat and worst 10 ways to miss your Personal Best.
